I entered the room and found him peeking out to say hello.
I think it makes him feel mighty, lifting something bigger than he is. Go for it, mighty Moses, go for it! (If you've missed it and wonder why I've posted a photo of a navy blue pillow, observe a small foot emerging from the left side of the pillow.)
In anticipation of introducing solid foods we started handing Moses little plastic spoons to "practice" with while we were eating. Don't know if that little practice theory will work but (shrug) we figure no worries if not.

...be it the wrong end or the right.

Moses and I have a running joke about his lack of sock on his left foot. If he wears socks he always manages to kick off or pull off (with his mouth) the left one. Don't know the reason for the preference, but as soon as I notice its absence I quickly re-sock him. He smiles, giggles, flails his arms and then silently pulls it off again within minutes. I think he's winning.
Our pre-morning nap reading routine is to read a story from The Jesus Storybook Bible--a wonderful kid's bible. (Thanks again, Kamers!) Sometimes we read another book before our afternoon nap, but mostly it's Goodnight Moon when the sun goes down.
I know the reading position is a bit unorthodox, but trust me, it's easier that way. Moses can't reach the pages to eat them and it gets him in a horizontal state of mind so he doesn't fuss as much when I put him down. (At least it worked like a charm for a few weeks. These days it's a different story...)
Plus, the view I have from there is pretty cute. :)
Board books are also a staple in our home. He does manage to turn a page or two, but mostly Moses likes to eat them.
Here's to literacy, kid!

Empty Dasani water bottles. He especially likes it if I partially collapse the bottle so he can grab it instead of just batting it around.
And doorways. We love doorways, baseboards, corners and walls.
What it really amounts to is that if it's in his vicinity it gets pulled into the Moses Vortex. All of the things you see in the picture above were within a 3 foot radius of the boy and they ended up on top of him. All of the pictures in this post are witness to the same phenomenon, doorways and baseboards included. Eventually, items sucked into the Moses Vortex end up in his mouth to be slimed. Beware!
At the end of August Jeremy officiated his first real live wedding! A ministerial "woo-hoo" indeed! He did a great job--Kevin and Linda are now happily married and their getting hitched went without a hitch! (You can't see it in the picture but Jeremy got to wear one of those cool Britney Spears head-set microphone thingys during the ceremony. It took all of his will power and then some not to bust a move while on stage.)
Moses and I enjoyed watching and listening from our back row vantage point (in case he decided to make some of his famous bird noises during the ceremony!).
While there were no bird noises (thankfully) we did enjoy eating Mom's dress whenever we got the chance.
Here Moses is pictured with sweet bridesmaid Cindy. You'd think he'd be a lot happier being loved on by such a lovely girl! Don't worry, Cindy, Moses thinks you're great. We think he's just practicing his Zoolander face.

Even though Moses' 6 month birthday was today we're only just now up to photos taken in August. But we're getting closer to real time! :) Here are a few fun ones from the beginning of Mo's 5th month. I was folding laundry (or something equally inspirational) in our bedroom and quickly became distracted by his amusement with a little duck friend.

Mid July we had two very special guests come visit us! Jerry and Claudia Root! Admidst speaking engagements and holiday plans in our corner of the earth, they so kindly worked us into their summer plans. Jerry dedicated Moses and delivered two excellent lectures on C.S. Lewis at our church while he was here. We thoroughly enjoyed showing them around town and exchanging book lists! The happy couple is pictured here at Queen Elizabeth Park.
Although we very much appreciated Jerry's lectures Moses appeared to be unmoved. Talk about a tough audience.
He did, however, find Jerry's beard fascinating.

Among other sweet gifts from the Roots, Moses received his first pair of very cool sunglasses which he sports quite willingly without complaint. (It must be his inner Californian?) I should also mention that Moses makes lots of noise. His favourite noises are like bird squawks and this picture really isn't complete unless you know that in this picture he's makin' some pretty serious squawks! (and he is also chirping loudly as I type...ah, silly Moses.)

Jeremy and I chose Moses as the name for our firstborn son many years before he was born. Quite simply, we liked the name--the way it sounded when we heard it, the musical quality it took on when we said it, the fun ways of shortening it (Mo, Mos, "The Mos"). We also liked it because of its biblical namesake. The biblical Moses was a man of great humility, who, while far from perfect, enjoyed a relationship with God in which they spoke face to face.
